Calathea's need plenty of diffused light, as direct sunlight will cause the leaves to fade. They will tolerate a degree of shade, but the more indirect light, the better the foliage will look.
Calathea like damp soil but definitely do not let the plant to sit in water or in very wet soil, this will cause root rot. It's better to water 'little and often' as a routine.
Ideally temperatures between 18-23°C, but can cope with as low as 15°C, avoid draughts and ensure the plant has reasonable ventilation.
Loves high humidity levels, misting frequently is a must to improve humidity conditions.
Apply a weak dose of fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
